Baguette Recipe

Making the best baguette at home is not complicated. With just a few ingredients, you can make this, and no kneading is needed. It just needs time for the dough to rise and develop a golden-brown crust and a soft, chewy inside.

Baguette is a popular French bread that people like. This is not tied to particular holidays or season, that's why it is perfect for breakfast, snacks, sandwiches, or as a side dish in soups and main dishes.

Why You’ll Love This Baguette Recipe

  • No kneading required
  • Simple ingredients
  • Only 20 minutes prep
  • Makes 2 baguettes
  • Crispy, golden crust

Ingredients

  • Instant yeast
  • Warm water
  • Sugar
  • All-purpose flour

  • Extra flour for dusting

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Cover and let sit for 5–10 minutes, until foamy. Add flour and salt, then mix until a shaggy dough forms. No need to overmix or knead.
  1. Cover the dough with a lid or kitchen towel for 1.5–2 hours. The dough should double/triple in size. Divide into 2 equal pieces, shape into long baguettes, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet or baguette tray.
  1. Make 3–4 diagonal cuts across the top of each baguette. Cover loosely with a kitchen towel and let rest for 15–20 minutes while the oven preheats.
  1. Preheat the oven to 480°F. Bake for 15–17 minutes, or until deeply golden brown and crisp. Let the baguettes cool on a wire rack for 10–15 minutes before slicing.

Tips for the Perfect Baguette

  • For the best texture, enjoy the baguette the same day it's baked.
  • Don't add too much flour; the dough should be slightly tacky.
  • For an extra-crispy crust, leave the baguettes in the turned-off oven with the door slightly cracked for 5 minutes after baking.

Baguette Recipe

Make easy homemade baguettes with simple ingredients and no kneading. These baguettes have a crisp, golden crust and a soft, chewy center, perfect for soups, sandwiches, or dipping in olive oil.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: Rise Time: 1½–2 hours

Total Time: Bake Time: 15–17 minutes

Yields: 2 baguettes

  • 7g instant yeast
  • 340g warm water (100F)
  • 1tsp sugar
  • 400g All-purpose flour
  • 2tsp salt
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Cover and let sit for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Best to use a wooden spoon; no need to overmix or knead the dough.
  3. Leave the dough in the same bowl and cover with a lid or kitchen towel for 1.5- 2 hours. The dough should double/triple in size.
  4. Sprinkle some flour on your surface and scoop out the dough onto that lightly floured surface and divide it into 2 equal pieces. Gently flatten each piece into a rectangle, then roll it tightly into a long baguette, pinching the seam closed. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet or a baguette tray.
  5. Using a very sharp knife or bread lame, make 3–4 diagonal cuts across the top of each baguette.
  6. Cover loosely with a kitchen towel and let the baguettes rest for another 15-20 minutes while the oven preheats.
  7. Preheat your oven to 480°F. Place the baguettes in the oven and bake for 15-17 minutes, or until deeply golden brown and crisp. Rotate the baguette for the last 3 minutes to brown the bottom if using a baguette pan.
  8. Let the baguettes cool on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.
